Feeling at Home in Your Work
I recently returned home from a lovely, full vacation with my family in Montreal. Oh, I loved being in Montreal again! Finding our way, speaking French, discovering novel places to eat, breathing in the scent of Europe and of being in a big city. Not to mention experiencing a worldwide sporting event with hundreds of thousands of other people from everywhere in the world. So many languages and beings surrounded us.
It was all so nourishing!
And I was also happy to return home. To the place I’ve made home these last three years, in Sioux Falls.
Coming Home to Your True Self
When I think about it, our whole lives are about coming home. Coming home to our beautiful, divine selves. To our true nature. To the things that delight us. To the things that we know, deep inside to be true.
I wrote this short piece last year, around this same time in June, and it feels like its perfect timing to share that with you again.
May you feel ever more at home in the work you’re doing in this world.
You Are Your Own Sanctuary
There's something truly magical about coming home. It's more than just a physical space – that place where we’ve lived a few months, a few years, or a few decades. That place where we hang our spring coats and take off our shoes. That place where we get to embrace the people and things we love most in the world. It's also a sanctuary where we find solace, connection, and a deep sense of belonging.
What if you could carry that feeling of home to the work you’re doing in the world? Perhaps that’s your creative work—your art, photography or writing for example, or maybe it’s building an authentic coaching or healing business.
Coming Home Is Reconnecting With Our Authenticity
It's about finding your way in the midst of all that noise out there—the noise that’s telling you how you must be and do your work, the noise convincing you that you need the rule and the striving, that noise that’s fueling the doubts and the misgivings. Coming home to your work is about embracing the whispers of your inner wisdom, guiding you back to your true essence.
Can you find a moment today to pause, breathe, and turn inward? When you do, can envision what coming home from your work looks like, or better yet, can you sense what it feels like?
Then, I invite you to ask yourself this one question:
What is one small thing I can do to make my work feel more like home?
You are your own sanctuary, and the key to coming home lies within you.
