What to know, and do, when your offer doesn’t generate the response you’d hoped for.
Sometimes when talking to clients or others, they tell me about resources and time spent launching an offer only to have little or no response. They’re often upset, frustrated, disappointed. Sad.
I so get this.
You put so much time and care into launching an offer. You’ve got things that can really help your potential clients.
And yet, things may not be happening as fast as you’d hoped.
It can be hard.
Reasons Why Your Launch Didn’t Hit the Mark
There are things to look at when an offer you promote doesn’t get the sign ups you’d hoped for. Once you’ve taken some time to step back and process your feelings about the outcome, you can assess concrete things like your initial expectations, promotional plan, timeline and frequency, or reach.
Sometimes the issue is deeper, like making sure you have enough clarity about who you help and what you help them with and that it is effectively translated through your messaging. Or it could be the promotional communications, like reviewing their resonance, authenticity and effectiveness. But other times, it’s less concrete.
It could be there’s a lot going on in the world at the moment, and your audience is distracted or taken up with emotional issues. It could be that your audience is still small and getting to know you. It could be that too many of them are too early in the client journey toward you and your business.
All that or more. The truth is it often just takes time.
A Mantra for The Big Test
My high school daughter recently took her first AP test. The school district we’re in luckily has lots of options so she was able to take a fascinating study on AP Human Geography while she was in 9th grade. As she was prepping for the test and in the days running up the exam earlier this past month, I happened to ask her if she had created or would consider creating a mantra to help for prep and test taking.
“No,” she said. “I don’t have one. But Mr. Schwekway told us one.”
“What is it?” I asked, curious because back when I was in high school lots of things were different. I certainly didn’t have teachers suggesting mantras. (Definitely not!)
“It’s from “Finding Nemo.” Dory,” she said. “When we’re in the test and we run across a hard question or maybe kind of start to worry, we just tell ourselves to ‘Just keep swimming’ like Dory and keep moving forward.”
Brilliant, I thought! And wonderful advice to coaches, healers and other creative entrepreneurs looking to grow and market their businesses too.
Logging the Miles
I read something recently in a writing book that likened writing to running a marathon. Some days writing DOES feel amazing, and some days, not so much. I’ve found it’s the same with marketing and growing your business. Some days are breathtaking, incredible. And other days? Well, they’re much more of a trudge. This is especially true after you have something like a launch that maybe doesn’t turn out the way maybe you’d dreamed of.
Whether it’s something tangible that you can identify that impacted your launch or it’s less clear, just keep swimming. Keep your heart open, keep the faith and keep showing up.
The world needs you and your gifts and talents right now. I’d say now more than ever before.
