Saying What Needs to Be Said

Finding recognition and realization in using your voice

Now is not the time for turning away, for demurring, or for putting things off. Now is the time for saying what needs to be said.

Sometimes what needs to be said is to ourselves:

  • Yes, I do need to set aside time for my creative expression.

  • What I know for sure is that this relationship is no longer nourishing.

  • What I crave, what I need is stillness .

This is where we recognize something at a deeper level, and by speaking it to ourselves, we bring consciousness to it. We bring intention.

We make it more real.

It becomes something we can act upon.

And sometimes what needs to be said is to others. To those close to us. To those in power. To those who would deny us something important.

  • I need support so I can spend more time writing.

  • I need you to hear me when I say what you are doing is wrong/illegal/immoral .

  • I must say no to this thing. Even though I like it. Even though I said yes before.

This type of saying is also a recognition. It’s a bringing forth of a truth from within. And by sharing with another, that act of speaking invites clarity and our own agency.

What do you need to speak this week?

Sanctuary: A Free Online Writing Workshop

In these days of upheaval and chaos, it is more important than ever to find refuge. Not as a way of escaping but rather as a way of tending to ourselves and those we love.

On Tuesday March 4th, I will be hosting a free two-hour writing workshop. In it, we will listen and take inspiration from diverse writings, and then we'll have the chance to explore Sanctuary by writing in response to unique writing invitations.
