Tiny, consistent actions are the true foundation of creative success
The dominant culture narrative is one that lauds big steps, bold leaps. When so-called successful people tell their stories, they often distill their narrative down to a single significant moment. They shine their attention on the thunderous, the flashy.
As a result, they tend to gloss over the myriad of often seemingly boring or minute ways in which they continued to move toward that which they were creating - every day. (They also tend not to dwell on any struggles, often relegating that portion of the story to single moments of triumph.)
“A word after a word after a word is power.” Margaret Atwood
Small acts repeated over and over again are what move you forward. Showing up for your writing or your creative work in the world, even in little ways, generates an energy. It’s a commitment to the relationship you have with your work and with yourself.
It is sacred. It is empowering.
As we move into the longer days of spring in the Northern Hemisphere (and the shorter ones in the southern,) I invite you to spend some time with your writing or your work in the world and ask yourself the following:
What small act can you take that will help you bring your words or creative work into the world? Can you commit to doing it today?
And once you’ve done it today, you then can ask yourself this question again tomorrow, then the next day, and then the next.
In a world that is always clamoring for bigger and bolder moves, I wish you a week of small, consistent, brave steps toward that which you love.

PS – if one of your intentions is to spend more time with your writing, please consider signing up for some of my free writing coworking sessions or joining a session of La Roseraie, a writing sanctuary for women, as my guest to see if you like it.
