Be You: The World Needs You and Your Gifts

Be You: The World Needs You and Your Gifts

The message I wanted to share with you this week has changed. because as I sat down a few days ago to start work on this post, another school shooting occurred. This time in STEM School Highlands Ranch in Colorado.

Right after we moved to central Illinois, nearly seven years ago now, I was up in Chicago for meetings for my corporate job. An unfamiliar 800 number came through my cell phone. Thinking it was a sales call, I let it go to voicemail.

I found out later it was a school district communication.

Remembering Gratitude

Remembering Gratitude

This week here in the U.S., we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, and I turn my attention more fully to gratitude. I’d like to reshare a piece of writing I wrote nearly two years ago. Even though life has, in many aspects, moved on from what it was then, I know that tapping into a profound sense of gratitude, often for the simplest things – the late autumn sun, the ability to put pen to paper, the breath rising in my body – can always fill me with more than enough.

Welcome, I've been waiting for you.

Welcome, I've been waiting for you.

My husband and I arrived at our friends’ house on a stormy spring evening; raindrops hung in the air as we stepped inside.

On our way to the kitchen, we passed a tumble of shoes and a full wall of children’s artwork hung up with push pins. Our friends immediately introduced us to their other guests — two other couples — and offered us drinks.
